You want to go where?!! , was my first reaction. Costa Rica, oh that’s not so bad… When is this… and you are going to be on an island with no phone reception for how many days?? I don’t know about this… I thought, when my oldest son started talking about EDventure. I was so skeptical, about this “program” at first… Where did you hear about this, was one of my questions. Oh mom, it’s from school, they were set up on the quad all week and this guy has been there and he’s been telling us all about it. I don’t think I ever got much more than that except that he went to regular meetings, had help fundraising, and was super excited (motivated). And that even sounds skeptical too, right? What kind of meetings…?
But seriously, this company is for real, the owners are for real and I would recommend it to anyone. My oldest son has been to Costa Rica twice, Cambodia twice, and South Africa once; his favorite, Cambodia, because the people are so warm and welcoming. My youngest son, has been to Cambodia and is planning his second trip. How could one even get a perspective of being able to comment on how ‘the people’ of a country make you feel if you’ve never visited more than your country? They both came home with a real life perspective of what is important to them. It seems like the insight they garnered from their time with EDventure empowered and inspired them to focus on what mattered most in their lives, which is empowering alone but they came home truly motivated.
The impact and influence of this group runs so much deeper than just a few weeks in another country. To provide the community servicesand programs in each of these countries while inspiring young people, not only to return or to try other programs but to raise their own funds too, is amazing work. Both of my sons are Eagle Scouts so they understand the hard work that goes into organizing and implementing community service projects. My boys could spend their summer and winter breaks doing many different things, but time and again they choose to spend their time working with EDventure and that speaks volumes to me. Thank you, EDventure, for all that you do and for inspiring my children.
