When my daughter first told me of her plans to participate in the EDventure program, I was excited for her but naturally, concerned that she would be flying alone to the other side of the world to an environment that she had never before experienced. However, I was quickly put at ease when she was able to show me how EDventure was a well established organization who would ensure not only her safety but provide her with this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Meeting the people of Cambodia, particularly the children definitely broadened her life experiences and provided her with a unique perspective on a completely different culture. Seeing how much the children appreciated being able to just go to school or excited at being given such simple things such as pencils and paper that in Canadawe take for granted really opened her eyes on what is important in life.
Just meeting the other volunteers and theEDventurestaff from around the world was also such a positive experience. While my daughter had a definite career path planned following university, spending time with them exposed her to a number of different career possibilities that she hadn’t yet considered.
As a parent, I saw so much growth in my daughter when she returned. She is much more confident, well-rounded and so grateful for all that she has in her life – this positive experience remains with her today – even years later. I would highly recommend any student to go on this adventure!
