Want to experience something different that will change you? Then the Costa Rican EDventure program is just the thing for you. The 3 week program in Costa Rica was truly an unbelievable and without a doubt an unforgettable experience for me. It was not only the amazing work with sea turtles which was extraordinary in itself; seeing those little baby turtles worked out their little flippers to reach the ocean, or the challenge and wonderful experience of staying with a host family that allowed me to immerse myself in their culture. But more than anything it was the people I was with and met that made this trip that much more worthwhile to me. There were certain points along the way where the physical exhaustion of our volunteer work really weighed on me but what helped me get through that was the people I was surrounded by. Whether it was my fellow team members or the wonderful Ticos, each and every one of them had such a positive attitude which I would like to refer to as the “Pura Vida” outlook that positively impacted me and provided encouragement and praise to me and one another. This was a constant reminder that what I was doing was all worth it because we were all contributing to a good cause and doing something good plus also the basic fact that we were in COSTA RICA BABY!!!
On this trip, no words can truly explain how much I have gained and learnt; from animal welfare, conservation and management to the “Pura Vida” culture of Ticos, to pushing my boundaries in order to speak a foreign language and the importance of team work and leadership. For me the most significant part of this trip was being surrounded by an absolutely amazing group of volunteers who I am internally grateful to have met as they have helped me learn a lot more about myself, who I was and the type of person I want to be. I found my re-sparked passion and determination to also follow my dreams. Muchos gracias! However I also give my gratitude to Costa Rica itself. Costa Rica opened my eyes to appreciate the things I take for granted such as water, food, electricity and a home. I have also learnt what really matters in life to me and that the way I want to live and tobe truly happy all comes down to the basic idea of choice. What I came to realize as well through my interactions
and bonding with the people I was with was that even though life may overwhelm you at certain points, there is always something good waiting for you in the end. It’s about appreciating what you have, who you are with and understanding that life is not as bad as people or yourself may take it to be. Life is full of wondrous things and Costa Rica is one place that really captures that fact. It’s about taking that chance to take a leap of faith and open up your own horizons to see what wonders are waiting for you. I am proud to say that my decision to go on this Costa Rican volunteer program is something I will never regret. It has been beyond doubt the most incredible, valuable and life changing experience I will always treasure and remember. YO AMO COSTA RICA!!! PURA VIDA!!
