Upon my arrival in Costa Rica my senses were overwhelmed with the breath taking scenery, the smells of exhaust in the city, and the hustle and bustle of the locals. After just three days now, there is just so much to absorb. I found myself learning something new every moment, one of the things that impress me the most is the innovation and thoughtfulness of the Costa Ricences (Costa Ricans). They really embrace their culture and strive to better every aspect of their lives and of their neighbours.
I’ve noticed the willingness to help others in our bus driver, Rodolfo, he has been very patient with us and is always there when we need his assistance. Also, the founders of the Jaguar Rescue Centre really impressed me. Their ability to care for those injured or abandoned animals and ability to inspire others to help was incredible.
However, the person that I will never forget is Paul Johnson. In his pursuit of a good cup of coffee, he began to find solutions to other problems he came across. His tenacity and innovation have inspired me to go back home and pursue my dreams of becoming a pharmacist to help others. His attention to detail in growing cocoa trees to make fine chocolate have attracted the attention of many others as well.
I hope they are all as inspired as I am to take something we are passionate about and use our creativity to improve it for the betterment of others and the frail environment. As for now, I will continue to take in as much of this culture as I can and live the Pura Vida life style.
